The Dattatreya Mandir (or Dattatreya Temple) is a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Dattatreya, who is considered the combined incarnation of the Hindu trinity — Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer).

Lord Dattatreya is revered as a divine teacher (Guru) and a symbol of spiritual wisdom and renunciation. In Hindu tradition, he is seen as an Avadhuta—one who is free from worldly attachments. His teachings emphasize learning from nature and seeing divinity in everything.

He is often depicted with:

  • Three heads — symbolizing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

  • Six hands — carrying sacred symbols such as:

    • a Trishula (trident) – Shiva’s weapon,

    • a Chakra (discus) – Vishnu’s emblem,

    • a Kamandalu (water pot) – symbol of creation,

    • a Damaru – Cosmic sound

    • a Shankha (conch) – divine sound, and

    • a Jaapmala - spirituality.

  • Accompanied by four dogs (symbolizing the four Vedas) and a cow (symbolizing Mother Earth).

  • The tree behind Him is the wish fulfilling Audumbara tree. The cow is Kamadhenu literally meaning the cow of desire or the grantor of desires.

  • Some pictures show bhiksha patra / Gada (mace) / Lotus in some hands of Dattatreya
